ALL
skaters under the age of 12 are REQUIRED to have a
parent or guardian at the rink at all times while they are on the ice. The monitors are
not babysitters. Situations arise where ice can become unavailable and your child could be
left alone without an adult.
Safe skating is essential. During each skating session, the monitor
is authorized to order a person from the ice for cause.
All club members are expected to behave responsibly and to be
considerate of other skaters at all times. Combined high and low freestyle sessions are of
a particular concern. This is because of the mixture of skating ages and abilities and
skaters awareness of each other (or lack of). Low level and high level skaters must be
aware of each other at all times or serious accidents can and will occur. Monitors,
parents, and skaters: BE ALERT!!
Many falls on the ice can be prevented if one assumes a safe
attitude and is considerate of others. Any foreign objects on the ice surface can provide
a dangerous fall. So PLEASE no walk-mans, food, candy, gum, beverage or smoking materials
on the ice.
Most serious accidents around ice rinks occur OFF the ice. Running
with or without skates, on the off-ice surfaces is the major contributor to these
accidents. PLEASE, no racing or horse play in the rink area.
Racing and rough activity on the ice will not be tolerated.
Ice use (e.g. freestyle, patch, and dance) is to be in accordance
with the posted schedule. When your time period is over, please leave the ice immediately.
Parents please assist and cooperate on this matter. (E.g. - Only skaters who are
trained ice dancers or who are currently taking ice dance lessons may utilize the dance
sessions. Basic Skills skaters only skate on Basic Skills allotted times and full
club members cannot skate during Basic Skills allotted time.)
Skaters taking a lesson should be given the right-of-way. Try to
stay out of the way of the pros and their students. Do not talk to the pros while
they are giving a lesson to someone else. During an ice dance session, skaters
skating to the dance music being played have the right-of-way, keeping in mind skaters
that may be in a lesson.
Group classes will start on time. Skaters should arrive 15 - 20
minutes early to have their skates on properly.
Free skaters should not intrude on ice areas where classes are being
conducted.
No standing on the ice to talk.
Skaters
must have passed their Preliminary Freeskate test and be at
least 9
years of age to skate High Freestyle sessions. High Freestyle classification
is mandatory for skaters aged 14 and older.
To skate during a High Dance Session, a skater must have passed
through their Bronze Dances.
Practice spins should be done in the center of the rink. This, of
course, does not include spins done during the course of practicing your program.
Warm-ups for skaters taking a lesson opposite their designated
freestyle time will be 5 minutes in length. For example, a low freestyle skater having a
lesson on high freestyle and vice versa can have a 5 minute, on-ice, warm-up immediately
prior to their freestyle lesson. After the lesson, the skater must exit the ice
immediately. The Oswego FSC encourages skaters to have their freestyle lessons on their
designated freestyle times. If there are exceptions, please stretch and do off-ice warm-up
prior to 5 minute on-ice warm-up.
